ADULT classes
Adult Hip Hop at Movemakers Philly provides the perfect union between physical training and recreation. We welcome adults of all ages and experience levels. Classes feature instruction from some of Philly's finest professional hip hop dancers. Our team of instructors use a mindful and thorough approach to share culture and present physical challenges in an invigorating yet safe way. We offer instruction in many of hip hop's sub-categories: party-dance, commercial choreography, house, funk and break dance. At Movemakers Philly we strive for our students to become grounded in foundation and to develop true connection to the hip hop community and style.
Intro to Hip Hop (Parents, this one is for you!)
Intro to Hip Hop is a fun class where you’re taught basic grooves and choreography. It is a great class for beginners; it’s totally welcoming. The goal in this class is to learn new ways of using the body, engaging with music while being immersed in a fun, party atmosphere. And of course, there will be a strong fitness component. The convenient aspect to this class for parents is that your kids can hang in our activity room with our staff’s supervision while you are in class.

Beginner/Intermediate Hip Hop
This class is for beginners who are up for a challenging environment and for dancers with experience who are looking to expand their knowledge of hip hop. Groove concepts, footwork and choreography are the primary focus of this class. You’ll also get your sweat on with some strength and conditioning.

Beginner Breakdance
This class is perfect for those of you who enjoy athletic activities ranging from tennis to CrossFit. This is a great class for increasing range of motion, flexibility, speed, coordination, power and creativity. Our resident break instructors, Mark and Steve from Hip Hop Fundamentals, will guide you through the basics of breaking and provide you with the strength and conditioning needed to support your practice. Don’t worry, you won’t have to spin on your head the first day. But you’ll have the opportunity to squat, move on all fours and learn what it is like to move intelligently with your back and stomach to the floor: completely new and fun movement patterns! This class will empower you for all endeavors in life. Take advantage of this rare opportunity. It is not often that you’ll come across a breaking class for adult beginners.

This vibrant dance style, a close relative to hip hop, was born out of the music revolution in Chicago during the post-disco era, giving birth to house music. House very quickly made its way into New York clubs and naturally down to Philly, where it has taken unique form. If you enjoy the idea of grooving to an up tempo beat, then you have to try house dance. The style is mostly known for its unique version of stylish and fancy footwork. Also it deliberately takes influence from jazz, latin, African, funk and hip hop. It’s a great aerobic workout: if you enjoy going on a run or maybe even soccer, then you’ll enjoy house. We will teach you the foundation and basics in a fun and easy way. But before you know it, you’ll be asking us when you can join us in the clubs.

Your endurance, balance, power, speed and explosiveness will all level up. It is a great way to get strong and burn calories while having fun and grooving out.

This is a class for mamas who want to push themselves safely and find release and relaxation. No experience with yoga needed. All trimesters welcome. Connect deeply to your body, mind, and growing babe. You will learn how to respond intelligently and mindfully to your body's cues and how to use your breath to guide your practice, your pregnancy and prepare you for labor and delivery. Pre-registration is strongly suggested.
